Here is an article that I wholeheartedly agree with. As much as we like to say promotions and belts do not matter and that you should be happy with the progress you are making in your own game, as a white belt you are often lost in the landscape of Jiu Jitsu.
Progress markers are not there for the ego but as guide post as to where we need to head towards and understand our own growth in the gentle art. Of course we need to work on “everything” and “Jiu Jitsu” being a white belt means you pretty much need work everywhere in your game. However, without feedback and direction frustration quickly becomes your best friend.
I’m glad that I came across this article as it really opened my eyes to understand what I was feeling getting lost in the 3rd stripe wilderness.
